Kudos to CPS alum Milan Sullivan (2012), her classmates at Mastery Charter-Shoemaker here in Philly, and their peers across the country for their sophisticated and introspective analyses comparing mainstream society’s response to the recent school shooting in Parkland, FL and gun violence in their own communities!
Congratulations to CPS Head of School Eric Jones for being selected to the 27th class of the Klingenstein Center’s Heads of Schools Program at Columbia University’s Teachers College.
With 19 other Heads from around the US and across 5 continents, Eric explored educational philosophy, leadership for social justice, and the burgeoning field of micro-schools with some of Teachers College’s finest scholars, and traveled all over Manhattan Island visiting a variety of public and private K-12 schools.
“This was, by far, the most robust professional development experience of my career,” Eric recounted. “On top of that, I developed fast friendships with some of the most talented and engaging leaders the independent school community has to offer. What a privilege!”

In partnership with the Healthy News Works organization, third-grade students will periodically publish a “Healthy Newsletter,” that will focus on the topic of health in our school, life, and community. For the second newsletter, students conducted interviews with CPS faculty. The second article is about, “Learning to rebound from a setback.” This project was made possible through the assistance of former Philadelphia Inquirer Journalist, Ms. Marian Ulhman.
