Welcome Center 2024-2025 School Year

Mission & Culture

  • Mission and Vision

We advance educational equity in close collaboration with families and the wider community by providing a high quality, identity affirming education that builds a foundation for lifelong success.

Learn more about out mission here.

  • Core Values

Curiosity: We desire to know more about our community and apply practices that cultivate growth and well-being among community members. We foster opportunities for exploration and innovation. We strive to maximize our potential.

Courage: We focus resources to achieve our mission and vision. We take a disciplined approach to executing our approach and applying our values. We learn from our successes and failures.

Compassion: We assume good intentions from our colleagues, caregivers, and students, and we engage each other in thoughtful ways. We seek to position each other for optimal engagement and performance. We value diverse experiences and perspectives in all aspects of our operation.

  • Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct provides a succinct summary of our school’s core identity and values.

More specifically, it frames school-day expectations and guides student behavior and aspirations. The Code of Conduct is based on CPS’ “3 Cs” (Curiosity, Courage, and Compassion) and states the following:

I will do my best everyday. That means I will:

    • Learn all I can and share what I’ve learned with others
    • Work hard and take a stand, even when it’s not easy
    • Respect myself, my peers, my teachers, and school property.

School Life

  • Calendar

Getting a jump-start on your planning? Our short calendar features major dates of the next school year. The full school calendar will be available in July.

  • School Hours

Morning Arrival begins at 7:30 am. Students who arrive between 7:30-7:55 am will have a chance to eat breakfast or relax in the dining hall before class begins.

Dismissal begins at 3:00 pm each day. Students exit the building one at a time and meet their parent or guardian in the car line.

Aftercare is provided by Ms. Sharon’s Daycare and runs each day at an additional cost from 3:00-6:00 pm. To enroll your child in aftercare and inquire about rates, email Sharon Polk at sharonsdaycare31@yahoo.com

Late Pickup should be communicated to the front desk as soon as possible. Late pickup is anytime after 3:15 pm. Please note that there is a late fee of $1 per minute after 3:15 pm.

  • Dress Code

At CPS, we believe that creating a comfortable learning environment for students and adults positions them for optimal engagement. This is especially important in early childhood and elementary school settings.

Students should wear clothing where they can fully participate in both seated learning activities and active indoor and outdoor play. Our children play outside in all weather and engage in hands-on indoor activities that can leave marks on clothing.

  • Lunch Program

Students participate in an all-inclusive daily breakfast and lunch program prepared by our Kitchen Manager Mr. Dave. Students are provided a wide variety of nutritious options throughout the week through Whitson’s Foods. We encourage all students to participate in our food program but allow students to bring their own healthy lunch if desired. Candy and sugary beverages are not permitted and will be sent home with students. We do not serve pork or peanut products in the cafeteria.

Students are also provided a healthy snack each day that they eat in the classroom. They may not not bring their own snack unless they have a documented allergy.

  • School Closings

Students, parents, and guardians are notified by text message, phone message, and email. Updates will also be posted on the website and social media.

  • Laptop Program

Technology offers exciting, innovative ways to apply and extend learning. CPS provides students with a wide range of meaningful experiences with technology. The school also embraces the goal of teaching students responsible technology use.

More information is outlined in our Acceptable Use Policy for Students

  • Tardiness

At CPS we believe that the most important time of the school day is the very beginning. The way we begin the day often shapes the way the rest of our day goes. Students arriving late not only miss very important announcements and lessons but also distract the rest of the class. It is often most difficult for our youngest students to adjust well when they arrive late. CPS is not able to offer re enrollment to families who are chronically tardy.

  • Transportation

If your child will be in 1st through 5th grade next school year, you live more than 1.5 miles from CPS, and you would like them to take the bus in the morning and/or afternoon next school year, please contact Ms. Mary- m.small@cpsphilly.org.

Please keep in mind that children who ride the bus arrive at CPS approximately between 7:30 and 8:00 am and will not have time to eat breakfast at school. As a result, children riding the bus must have breakfast at home before they get on the bus. In addition, the bus picks children up from school at 2:45 p.m. The bus cannot pick students up any later than 2:45 p.m.

Once addresses have been submitted, the Philadelphia School District will send you a letter at the end of August detailing your child’s pickup time and location.

  • Attendance

All students enrolled at CPS must attend school regularly in accordance with state and federal laws as consistent school attendance is an essential element in ensuring school success. We urge you to plan medical appointments and other non-school related activities for after school hours so your child can attend school with consistency. CPS is not able to offer re enrollment to families who are chronically absent.
